The first few hours: do exactly one thing
The first and only thing that matters: go to a branch and establish which kind of freeze this is. Is it the bank's own risk control measure, or a freeze applied at the request of law enforcement? The two differ in nature, duration and how they are lifted, and guessing wrong burns the days that matter most.
Why in person rather than by phone? Phone support can usually only see "account status: restricted" and is often not in a position to say more. A branch can look further and can give you a written explanation or a receipt for your enquiry.
Bring identification. What you need to establish:
- The nature of the freeze — bank control measure or law enforcement request
- The scope — whole account, a specific amount, or only certain transaction types
- If law enforcement, which authority and where
- What the bank needs from you
The third is particularly important. If it originated with an authority in another region the communication path is entirely different, and banks can usually tell you this.
Three things not to do in this window: ① do not start shuffling money between your other accounts — moving funds while you are under attention adds a chapter to the story; ② do not delete anything, because chat logs and trade screenshots are the only material you have to explain yourself with; ③ do not engage with anyone who approaches you offering to "get it unfrozen".
Day one: assemble the file
Whichever kind of freeze it is, you end up answering the same question: where did this money come from? So day one is spent preparing the answer.
- Order screenshots. Reference number, time, amount, counterparty ID, status.
- In-platform chat logs. Evidence the trade proceeded normally.
- Bank transfer confirmations. The leg you sent or received.
- Your account statement. Showing what ordinary use of this account looks like.
- A timeline. One page, chronological: on this date I did this trade, this amount, with this counterparty.
The fifth is skipped by most people and is unusually useful. Case handlers and compliance officers read a great deal of material every day. A timeline organised by date, amount and order number helps them match statements to attachments. Unordered screenshots may require further explanation; this site has no basis for promising a processing time.
If you have been keeping screenshots as the funding guide suggests, you can match the saved evidence by order number. If not, start recovering what you can now — exchange history is still exportable, so export it.
Days two and three: the paths diverge
If it is a bank risk control measure
This is the more tractable case. The bank needs an explanation that holds together, plus material. Submit what you assembled on day one, explain the source, and it can usually be lifted.
How to pitch it: state facts, do not argue, leave emotion out. "I made a normal digital asset trade on this platform, here is the order reference and the confirmation." That is all. You do not need to prove your innocence rhetorically; the material speaks.
If it is a law enforcement freeze
Treat this seriously. It means there is a case, and your account sits on a payment chain.
At this point engage a lawyer rather than approaching the authority yourself. Not because you have done something wrong, but because the process has procedural requirements — what to submit, to whom, in what form — and getting those right saves a great deal of time while getting them wrong can leave things stalled indefinitely.
What to look for in a lawyer is simple: qualified to practise, able to issue formal documents, able to act for you. Not somebody who claims connections; in this field that is almost always a sales line.
Have realistic expectations about time and outcome
The most draining part of this is not the loss but the uncertainty — you do not know how long, you do not know the outcome, and nobody can tell you. Accepting that early saves a lot of wasted anxiety and a few bad decisions.
Rough expectations, stated plainly so you are not left guessing:
A bank control measure is usually manageable. With complete material and a clear explanation, think in days. What you can do is well defined; after that it is waiting.
A law enforcement freeze should be measured in months, and there may be long stretches with no update at all. That does not mean you have been forgotten — investigations run at their own pace. Chasing during this period rarely achieves anything and costs you.
Whether the full amount is released depends on the findings. If you are established as an innocent third party there is usually a route; if the amount you received corresponds to case funds, only part may be released. None of that is something you can change through effort. What you can change is how complete your material is.
I know that is not comforting. But I would rather you plan against the real shape of it than against an optimistic timeline that does not hold — if the money in that card is next month's rent, you should be arranging something else now rather than waiting for it to unfreeze.
Look after yourself while this runs
Slightly outside the scope of a procedural guide, but worth saying: the psychological cost of this is badly underestimated. Uncertainty can affect sleep, family communication and judgement. Treat offers to unfreeze funds with particular care when you feel pressured to resolve the situation quickly.
Three concrete suggestions: confine dealing with it to a fixed slot each day and leave it alone outside that; tell one person rather than carrying it alone; and treat waiting as part of the process rather than as an unresolved problem.
Afterwards, change two habits
People who have been through this usually make two changes: separate the trading card from the living card completely, and make keeping evidence automatic. Done earlier, both would have made this episode much smaller.
Separate records can make the payment trail easier to explain. They do not isolate a freeze: depending on the scope of bank or legal measures, other accounts in your name may also be restricted. Keep essential living arrangements in mind, but do not assume a second card leaves salary, rent and spending untouched.
On evidence, one workable method: a dedicated album on your phone, three images per trade (order, transfer, chat), no organising, no naming. Find by date. Ten seconds per trade, and over time it becomes a complete archive.
The upstream measures — how to choose counterparties, how to keep the account from looking suspicious — are in the funding guide and the pre-trade self-check.
Questions people actually ask
Is a freeze the same as a payment block?
No. A bank's own risk control measure and a freeze applied at law enforcement request differ in nature, duration and how they are lifted. Establishing which one you are dealing with is the first step and determines everything after.
Should I use an agent to get it unfrozen?
Not advisable. Services marketed around "unfreezing" are overwhelmingly a second round of extraction. What actually helps is a qualified lawyer who can act for you and issue formal documents.
Will my cards at other banks be frozen too?
Possibly, depending on whether the freeze targets an account or a person. This is exactly why keeping trading and daily-use cards separate matters — in the worst case only the one is affected.
I knew nothing about it. Why am I involved?
Because freezes follow the payment chain, not fault. If money you received has an upstream problem, your account is on the chain. Whether you were an innocent third party is something you demonstrate afterwards, with trade records.
Risk notice: crypto prices move violently and you can lose everything you put in. This describes a general approach based on common situations and is not legal advice; for anything involving legal process, consult a lawyer qualified in Kazakhstan. Some jurisdictions restrict crypto assets — check the rules where you are.
